"Unfortunately, I cannot remember
the names and order of those who played at Cryo, nor can I categorise the music
into any neat little boxes, but there was a very relaxed feeling about the place
from the moment we spread out our picnic blanket. I was exhausted from a week
full of running around, with the usual problems of time..... there never seems
to be enough time for living, so it is very refreshing to go out to Rodd island,
and just have nothing to do but relax for the whole day. Being on the island
really means getting away from it all, and it is very enjoyable to sit under
a tree, and close your eyes, and let the music take your mind on a journey....
Sub Bass Snarl really managed to take my consciousness for a float, and Seymour
Butz and Gemma tapped into the sleepy vibe of the day, and I found them very
soothing . It was a pretty warm day, very humid, but not too hot as the clouds
protected us from the sun. As we ate our BBQ chicken lunch, four people walked
up and down hypnotically in front of us. They were playing some strange ball
game though I can't remember what it was called... they would throw a little
ball, and then try to hit it with bigger ones. It was good to watch them and
catch up with some interesting and friendly people I met at the Shark Island
Cryogenesis. All these little goings on of the day were enveloped in a gentle
soundscape that was omnipresent yet subtle and mood altering. Being able to
see the city while isolated on an island was a strange feeling though. It was
like we were enjoying ourselves and relaxing in spite of Sydney's bustle and
noise- it felt almost like an act of defiance. We created our own holiday space
in the very heart of the hive. All up it was an excellent day." Alison

"Cryogeneses have become events that I always look forward to; partly because of their unique concept and partly due to their infrequency (which strangely isnt a bad thing). We arrived at Rodd Island with an air of deja-vu, as Simon Caldwell was warming up proceedings. As soon as I got there I slipped out of trainspotter mode, and was simply relaxed. Cryo patrons certainly are a diverse bunch of people, each there for very different reasons and the music played was equally eclectic. The isolation and geography of this small island created a good social atmosphere, something which could never be re-created in a nightclub environment. The atmosphere was definitely chilled, but my body couldnt decide whether to sleep with the weather playing Mind Games on us all. While music was perhaps the centrepiece of the day, there wasnt an emphasis on the technical perfection of DJing - the odd vinyl crackle and record skip added a real live element. Jools (Sista Babel Fish) decided to play a mind-bending set, that challenged my questionable mindstate. Sub Bass Snarl impressed as always with Lukes expert knob twiddling tweaking out some wicked sounds. Having gone to a few of these island affairs, we were actually [over]prepared this time (well perhaps not as well as Andrew). After asumptuous feast I crashed out to awake to the perfect dreamy closing setby Gemma and Seymour - as I lay back and saw the water flow past it was as if the island was going somewhere - I wasnt quite sure where. Ill write a better review someday... but as a wise person said talking about music is like dancing to architecture, and with Cryo it simply has to be experienced Heterotopia or not." Aaron Mahadevan
